Privacy Policy

HazAlerts is an emergency information and links page. It has no accounts, no sign-up, and no forms. There is nothing to log in to and nothing we ask you to submit.

Data we collect

We do not run a server-side database, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personal information directly. Like any web server, our hosting infrastructure keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser user agent, requested page, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are not used to build profiles and are not sold or shared.

Analytics

We use Matomo, a self-hosted analytics tool running on our own server (noxstat.com), to understand aggregate traffic patterns such as which pages are visited and how often. Matomo may set cookies to support this. Data collected is used only to understand site usage and is not sold or shared with third parties.

Cookies and advertising

This site is free to use and supported by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising, or view and manage the cookies used, via Google's Ads Settings. Third-party links and embedded content

HazAlerts is primarily a curated set of links to official and third-party sources: the Bureau of Meteorology, state and territory council directories, Zoom.Earth, earth.nullschool.net, USGS earthquake maps, Blitzortung lightning data, a YouTube video embed, and a custom ChatGPT tool. Live BOM warning data shown on the home page is fetched from copies of the official BOM warning feeds served from this domain. Each of these external sites and services has its own privacy policy, which we don't control and this policy doesn't cover. We recommend checking their policies directly before providing any information to them.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will be posted here with a new "last updated" date above.
